State:

This film deals with an important topic of the postwar era, which even today has lost nothing of its relevance to our society: the definition of home and integration.

1945. The War is over, and new borders are drawn up for the old countries. Upper Silesia now being a part of Poland, Luisa and her stepfather Arne are the only ones who stay in their village - hidden in the basement, while above them, a Polish family moves in. Tolerated by the new house owners, the two of them experience how Tadeusz and his daughter Agnieszka get more and more accustomed to their new surroundings, while they themselves increasingly feel like foreigners in their former home.

Eventually, Arne and Luisa have to decide just what "home" means to them. A familiar place now inhabited by foreign people, or a foreign place with a familiar language?
